Terms of Service

Last updated 23 September 2026. Outset, 339 King St N, Waterloo, ON N2J 0C5, Canada.

These terms cover two kinds of people: guests who book an experience through Outset, and the businesses whose activities are listed on it. Using the site means you accept them.

What Outset is

Outset is a place to find and book local activities: a kayak rental, a skydive, an escape room, range time, a cooking class. The activity itself is run by the business, not by us. The business sets its own prices, times, age limits, safety rules and refund policy, and is responsible for the experience it delivers.

Listings we built before the owner claimed them

Many pages on Outset were built from a business's own public website so guests can find it. Those pages carry only facts we could read on that site, and never invented prices, hours, availability or rules. A booking on such a page is a request the business confirms. The owner can claim the page, correct anything on it, or ask us to remove it at any time by writing to hello@onoutset.com.

Tickets, attractions and tours sold through partners

Some listings, mostly museums, shows, city tours and theme parks, are the products of a booking partner such as Viator. The page on Outset shows the partner's photos, description and from-price under the partner's licence and says which partner it is. Booking, payment, changes and cancellation for those products happen on the partner's site under the partner's terms, not ours. Outset earns a commission when you book through that link, at no extra cost to you. Outset does not sell those tickets itself and is not the merchant for them.

Booking and payment

Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Where a listing is instant-book, your booking is confirmed as soon as payment succeeds. Where it is request-to-book, the business has to accept it first: the amount is authorised and held on your card at booking, captured when the business accepts, and released untouched if the business declines or does not answer in time. The total shown before you pay is the business's price plus one service fee, printed as its own line: 5% of the business's price up to $100, 4% up to $500 and 3% above that, never more than $25. Outset also keeps 5% of the business's price from what it pays the business. There is no fee for a business to be listed, and no fee when there is no booking.

Cancellation and refunds

If you cancel, the business's own cancellation policy applies, and it is shown on the listing before you pay.

If the business cancels, you are refunded in full, automatically, to the card you paid with. You do not have to ask. A refund normally reaches your statement within 5 to 10 business days. If your card was authorised but not yet charged, the hold is released instead and nothing is taken.

Weather and safety

Activities on the water, in the air and outdoors get called off for weather, wind, lightning, unsafe water or a mechanical problem. That call belongs to the operator, and always to the operator: a captain, pilot or instructor may end or refuse an activity for safety at any point. When they call a booking off for weather or safety, it is the business cancelling, so the paragraph above applies in full: the guest is refunded automatically, with no fee to the guest and no commission to us. If only part of an experience ran, the business decides what to refund and we pass that decision through.

Your side of it

Give accurate names, numbers and guest counts, meet the age, weight, health and certification requirements printed on the listing, arrive on time, and follow the operator's safety instructions. An operator may refuse service on safety grounds, and where they do, their own policy decides the refund.

Businesses on Outset

If you claim a listing, you confirm you are entitled to act for that business, and that the prices, hours, policies and photos you publish are accurate and yours to publish. You can unpublish or leave at any time. Bookings already taken still have to be honoured or cancelled and refunded.

Things we do not promise

We do our best to keep listings accurate, but a business can change a price or an opening time without telling us. Outset is not liable for the conduct of a business or a guest, for injury during an activity, or for a business closing. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law where you live.

Changes and contact

We will post any change to these terms on this page with a new date at the top. Questions, corrections and removal requests go to hello@onoutset.com.
